The long-term goal of the project Ruslana is working on is to conduct a statistical analysis of the characteristics of microbialite environments. Microbialites are basically rocks formed by microbial growth and sedimentation. It is of interest to search for any common traits or patterns within these characteristics. A better understanding of microbialite environments are sites can lead to insights to life not just on Earth, but elsewhere in the Universe.
